What constitute a good perfume
Fragrances are the concentrated odor of a plant or mineral. They are typically added to perfumes in order to provide a beautiful natural fragrance. Fragrances are produced by distilling plant aromas into extremely concentrated forms that can be applied as an external fragrance or internal deodorant. Perfumes are a combination of odor chemicals or fragrant primary aromatic essential oils, fixatives and odorants, typically in either water or alcohol form, which are applied to the body, clothes, food, and other living-spaces for an attractive, long-lasting, and pleasant scent. Perfumes are available in a wide range of fragrances, including: citrus, garden, floral, green, fresh, oriental, spicy, and woody.
Fragrances are made by fermenting certain oils (petals, Leaves, stems, fruit, peel, seeds and bark) from plants that bear them. Perfumes are produced when the essential oil of the plant is mixed with carrier oils, alcohol, a dilute solution of resins or a carrier oil, dilute waxes, and other additives. The end product is then marketed as a fragrance, intended to provide a pleasant odor to a person’s senses. The components of a fragrance combine to produce the pleasing odor that we detect as a fragrance. Some fragrances such as Black opium , hugo boss, DKNY, Diesel are so refined that the end products attract mass appeal. In nature, scents occur in natural air and are detected by our olfactory glands, which are located in the nose. There are also several distinct categories of scents that include: Feminine Fragrances, which are intended to be consumed; Aromatic, which are intended to be inhaled; and Floral/Plant Fragrances, which are intended to be absorbed by the skin.
Perfumes and fragrances are considered to be a food product, because they are used in the making of food for consumption, including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, shampoos, and hair styling products such as gels and mousse. It is believed that fragrances affect the body through the autonomic nervous system. When a person smells perfume or fragrance, it triggers a series of responses within the brain that cause your brain to interpret the scent as a food ingredient. Therefore, fragrances may act as food additives or food ingredients.
Perfumes, fragrances and other ingredients can be testing to find out if they are truly safe for human use. One method used is to test the materials’ ability to withstand heat, light, electricity and water. When a material’s ability to withstand these various elements is found to be satisfactory, then it is used for perfumes, deodorants and other cosmetic products. However, there is some controversy surrounding the testing of these ingredients.
Some people believe that fragrances should not be tested for their ability to affect people’s health because the pleasant odor produced by most fragrances is considered to be part of the product. According to the courts, the test should be able to determine whether the fragrance is, in fact, an ingredient or merely a finish. The court ruled that because the fragrances themselves do not create a pleasant odor, it is irrelevant what the other ingredients are.
Other perfume ingredients have been proven to be carcinogenic. Methylene Chloride, a common ingredient in detergents, has been determined to be a known carcinogen. Fragrances are commonly added to cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, shampoos, hair styling products and perfume to give a scent and an appealing smell. The inclusion of a carcinogenic substance in any type of product would most likely result in significant harm to consumers. For this reason, perfumers must be careful about the types of chemicals that they choose to add to their products. You can learn more about how perfumes are made
